保良點滴 – 保良局局徽
Po Leung Memories – Po Leung Kuk Emblem
昨天是保良局賣旗日，相信當大家看到旗袋或紙旗上的局徽時，不會感到陌生，但又會否知道它是何時出現？
1951 年，保良局總理議決創設局徽，由佘公正總理之子佘帝傳先生設計，盾形的局徽象徵保良局保護弱小的使命，呼應「保赤安良」之宗旨，加深公眾對本局工作的印象。為隆重其事，本局於同年的 4 月 26 日舉行局徽揭幕典禮，並邀請華民政務司杜德主禮，他在致辭時以法語 Esprit de Corps（意謂「和衷共濟，同享光榮」）帶出局徽有助增強局內的凝聚力。
The Flag Day of Po Leung Kuk held yesterday was supported by volunteers across schools and service units. The donation bags and stickers used featured the emblem of Po Leung Kuk, which is well-known to the society. However, are you aware of the emblem’s origin?
In 1951, in an effort to promote public impression on Po Leung Kuk, the directors approved the creation of an emblem to represent the organization. The son of then-director Mr. Sheh Kung-ching – Mr. Sheh Tai-cheun was tasked to design the emblem. The shield was chosen for the emblem to symbolize the organization’s mission of protecting the young and innocent.
To commemorate the creation of the Kuk’s emblem, a dedication ceremony was held on April 26th, 1951 and the Hon R. R. Todd, Secretary for Chinese Affairs was invited as the officiating guest to unveil the emblem. While making a speech for the ceremony, Todd commented that the emblem stimulates the cooperative spirit of the bearer and promotes its “esprit-de-corps”. Indeed, the emblem today serves as one of the most well-known symbols of the charity.
保良局內不少對聯皆由清末遺老所書，如朱汝珍、岑光樾等。
